The 7 train service began on June 13, 1915, when the Flushing Line opened. It ran between Grand Central - 42nd Street to Vernon Boulevard - Jackson Avenue in Queens. Similar the the 6, the 7 also has a <7> variant that runs during rush hour and early evenings in peak direction. Twice in 1916, the southern terminal was extended first to Hunters Point Avenue and then to Queensboro Plaza. Nine years later, the 7 train service was extended to 111th Street and Roosevelt Avenue. The following year saw a westward expansion for the train, extending the last stop from Grand Central to Fifth Avenue and then Times Square - 42nd Street a year later. On January 21, 1928, the final southern terminal for the 7 would open at Flushing - Main Street, nearly completing the route it runs today. In April 1964, the World’s Fair was hosted in Flushing Meadows - Corona Park for the 1964-65 exposition. The 7 saw additions of new R33 and R36 cars to the line to show the revolutionary ability of the New York City subway system. The final expansion of the 7 line was the extension of the the last station from Times Square to Hudson Yards - 34th Street in 2015. Besides ending at Hudson Yards, the 7 has essentially run the same route since 1927.
